Teen Boys Bedrooms Makeover Tips
By Sherrie Le Masurier
It’s time to make over my 14 year old son’s bedroom and give it a more mature look. Do you have any makeover ideas for teen boys
bedrooms?
When it comes to a teen boys bedrooms makeover you’ll want to take the time to consider what kind of teen room decor appeals to
your son most and then sit down and discuss paint colors, wall treatments, wall art and bedding as well as things like furniture and
shelving.
Teen boys bedrooms should be a reflection of them and their unique personality.
Consider painting one wall an intense red or orange, or a deep blue or green and then use a toned downed shade of the same or contrasting
color to paint the remaining walls. Wood stained or painted furniture in a dark shade can then be incorporated along with white or off white trim
to lighten things up.
When it comes to themes for teen boys bedrooms consider reusable wall murals. Wall murals come in a variety of themes like team sports,
surfing and snowboarding. Any wall mural art you select should be able to stand the test of time, that way you won’t find yourself doing another
teen boys bedrooms makeover within a year or two.
If your teen is into team sports and has a lot of trophies or similarly enjoys collecting things you may want to incorporate a good selection
of shelving. Also consider what his storage needs may be now and in the near future. An adjustable wall unit is one of your best investments.
When it comes to bedding for teen boys bedrooms it’s always wise to pick up colors from elsewhere in the room and/or go with the same type of
theme as you have in his mural or in select items of wall art.
As you can see, a teen boys bedrooms makeover involves many different color and design elements. It’s in your best interest to shop around
prior to making any purchases (unless of course, you know you can take it back and get a full refund).
Sometimes all you really need is a little inspiration and once you’ve found it your teen boys bedrooms project will quickly come together. I
personally find there’s great inspiration in favorite colors, bedding sets, and wall murals. Once you find something your son likes the next step
is to take a color or two from it and then try to match up accessory items.
Here’s an example. My friend’s 17 year old son Chris loves surfing. Chris spent some time online and came up with a great paint by number wall
mural in a surf theme. Chris and his mom Tammi used the colors in the mural to inspire an overall wall color. They went with a typical ocean blue
but to their surprise found that there were many shade variations of ocean/sea blue that would have worked nicely with the selected surf
mural.
Since the mural covered one of the largest walls in his room, Chris opted for denim bedding and window treatments. While there’s a good variety
of bedding and fabrics available featuring surfers and tropical sunsets, Chris and Tammi felt that considering the size of the wall mural, the
room would be too busy if a similar motif was featured on the bedding and in his window treatments. Sometimes simple is best.
Chris’s teen boy bedrooms makeover was a great success – now when you walk into his room you see a mural that depicts his most enjoyed
activity and a relaxing toned down space with denim and dark blue accessories that complement his ocean blue walls.
